I Manifested So Hard, I Ended Up With No Food in My Fridge

What Failing at Manifestation Taught Me About Self-Worth, Inner Safety and Aligned Action

Have you ever been completely clear about the life you want, done everything you were told would help you create it, and still felt as though some part of you was fighting against it?

For a long time, I could not understand why manifestation wasn't working for me. I believed in my vision. I invested in support. I followed every practice I could find and eventually left my secure career to pursue the life I wanted.

Instead, I found myself pushing through anxiety, resistance and financial instability until I had no food in my fridge.

What felt like failure at the time ultimately revealed the deeper beliefs I was carrying about money, freedom, rest and responsibility. It completely changed the way I understand manifestation, self-worth and lasting change.

I Did Everything the Manifestation World Told Me to Do

I meditated for more than an hour every day.

I covered my house in affirmations.

I read every manifestation book I could find, worked with a manifestation coach and visualised my future constantly.

I imagined freedom, abundance, meaningful work and the ability to travel while making an impact. I even left my secure nine to five because my vision was so clear.

I believed I was taking the leap. I believed this was what trust looked like.

There was just one problem I kept ignoring.

I felt sick to my stomach almost every single day.

The Experience That Expanded My Idea of What Was Possible

This chapter followed the story I shared in my first Insight. I had left an 18 year relationship, travelled alone and begun discovering who I was outside the life I had known since I was 16.

MY FIRST INSIGHT

For the first time, an entirely different future felt possible.

Then, during a solo trip through Europe, I had a holiday romance with a millionaire.

I was introduced to a way of living that felt completely removed from anything I had experienced before. We flew business class. I experienced the best of the best. I found myself in places, conversations and experiences I had never imagined would be available to me.

It was not simply the luxury that affected me.

It was what the experience represented.

Expansion. Possibility. Freedom.

For a brief period, I was immersed in a world that showed me how differently life could be lived. It connected me with desires I had not fully allowed myself to name and expanded my sense of what might be possible for me.

I Left My Job to Follow the Vision

I began engaging deeply with manifestation work. I found a manifestation coach and invested a significant amount of money to work with her.

Then I started doing everything “right.”

I became clearer and clearer about the vision. I wanted a life of ease, freedom and impact. I wanted to help people deeply, build my own coaching business and create work that could

move with me. I wanted to sleep, rest, travel and enjoy my life while still doing something meaningful.

Eventually, I stepped away from the nine to five job I had held for eight years and took a five month break.

During that time, I started my coaching business.

I believed all it would take was one miracle. I thought my role was to trust the vision completely, take the leap and prove that I was willing to meet the life I had been asking for.

But while my conscious mind was committed to ease, the way I was living was still organised around overwork.

Across that chapter, I was working two jobs, building my private practice and coaching work, and training intensely. Even when I technically had more space, I did not know how to inhabit it.

I did not know how to rest without feeling as though I should be doing something to justify the decision I had made.

The life I was imagining and the life my body knew how to live did not match.

I wanted ease, but I kept creating pressure. I wanted freedom, but I treated every moment as though everything depended on what I did next. I wanted to create impact without exhausting myself, but I was still trying to build that life through the same overworking patterns I wanted to leave behind.

I Thought Fear Meant I Needed to Believe Harder

There were days when I did not want to post, be visible or create another reel. But I believed this reluctance was resistance, so I forced myself to do it anyway.

At one point, while I was creating reels, both my phone and laptop stopped working.

It felt like resistance after resistance.

I interpreted every uncomfortable feeling and every obstacle through the lens of manifestation.

I told myself it was fear. Resistance. The old version of me trying to pull me back.

I thought I needed to believe harder. Manifest harder. Trust more.

So I kept overriding what my body was trying to tell me.

When I felt anxious, I meditated more. When reality did not match the vision, I tried to hold the vision more strongly. When very little money came in, I told myself that doubt would only push abundance further away.

I had imagined a life in which I could sleep, rest, help people and create impact from a place of ease. But my body would not let me settle into it.

Eventually, I had no food in my fridge.

I had no choice but to return to my job.

At the time, I thought I had failed. Maybe I had doubted too much. Maybe I had not held the vision strongly enough. Maybe some unconscious part of me had blocked everything I was trying to create.

Looking back, I see it very differently.

Returning to work was not the end of the vision. It gave me the financial stability to keep building my private practice and coaching business alongside my job. More importantly, it gave me the space to understand why I had not been able to sustain the life I wanted yet.

I had taken a dramatic external action without understanding the internal beliefs that action would activate.

That experience became the beginning of a much deeper understanding of belief, self-worth, inner safety and change.

Why Manifestation Wasn't Working for Me

The biggest thing holding me back was not a lack of desire.

It was not a missing affirmation.

It was a belief I did not even know I was carrying:

I am irresponsible.

The beliefs underneath it looked like this:

  • Money equals safety.

  • Rest is irresponsible.

  • Freedom is risky.

  • If I stop working, everything will fall apart.

  • Wanting a life that looks different means I am reckless.

Why Affirmations Were Not Enough

I do not think affirmations are useless.

I still use visualisation. I still believe in the power of intention, intuition, expanders, aligned action and a vision that feels bigger than the life you can currently see.

But I no longer believe that repeating a new thought automatically makes it feel true.

For example:

  • You can say, "I am worthy," every morning and still accept inconsistency in love.

  • You can say, "Money flows easily to me," and still overwork because rest feels dangerous.

  • You can visualise freedom and continue making choices that protect familiarity.

  • You can know exactly what you want and still be organised around an old identity that learned it was safer not to have it.

The Work That Changed The Belief

Through my experience and professional training in EMDR, I began to understand how differently beliefs can shift when we work with more than the thoughts we can consciously identify.

Rather than simply arguing with the belief that I was irresponsible, I could begin exploring the earlier experiences and emotions that had taught me responsibility was the only path to safety.

The goal was not to reject everything my family had taught me. Those lessons came from love, protection and genuine experiences of scarcity.

The goal was to recognise that I was no longer living in the conditions those rules had been designed to survive.

Over time, I began creating space for different beliefs:

I am deserving of rest and enjoyment.

Abundance can come through alignment, not only overworking.

These beliefs did not mean I stopped valuing responsibility. They changed what responsibility meant.

Responsibility was no longer forcing myself to remain in a life that depleted me. It became learning how to support myself while creating something new.

It meant building structures around my freedom, listening to myself more honestly and learning that trusting a vision and responding to reality could exist at the same time.

Capacity Is Not The Same as Perfect Healing

When I say I was missing the capacity to hold the life I wanted, I do not mean I needed to become perfectly healed before I deserved it.

I do not believe we have to earn good things by becoming completely fearless.

Capacity is more practical than that. It is having enough internal safety to make a different choice when the old one feels familiar. It is having enough support to remain with uncertainty

without losing your connection to yourself. It is creating structures that can sustain the freedom you are asking for.

It is also being honest about reality.

Sometimes discomfort is part of growth. Sometimes it is information that something is unsafe, unsupported or unsustainable.

The work is discernment. It is learning not to treat every internal alarm as evidence that you are expanding, and not to treat every fear as proof that you should turn back.

My mistake was not wanting more.

It was believing that faith required me to ignore everything that did not fit the story I wanted to believe.

What I Believe About Manifestation Now

For me, manifestation sits at the meeting point between the spiritual and the practical.

It involves:

  • Clarity about what you want.

  • The self-worth to believe you are allowed to want it.

  • The honesty to recognise the patterns that contradict it.

  • The inner safety to tolerate receiving something unfamiliar.

  • The aligned action that gives the vision somewhere to land.

  • The structures that allow you to sustain what you are creating.

  • The flexibility to let the path look different from the one you imagined

The Failure That Changed My Career

This manifestation series is where I will explore all of it:

  • Self-worth

  • Identity

  • Inner safety

  • Aligned action

  • Expanders

  • Tests

  • The magic dark

  • The difference between wanting a life and becoming available for it

Because sometimes failure is not proof that the vision was wrong.

Sometimes it is the moment you finally discover what the vision is asking you to learn.
